Though the most popular game in India is Cricket and the National game of India is Hockey but these are not the games that originated from India. Here are the games that originated in India.

1.Chess: The board  game was developed in the Gupta Empire during the sixth century. The game was previously referred as Chaturanga and is now popularly known as ‘Shatranj’ in Hindi and Chess in English



2. Carom : There are no sure or written evidence that Carom was invented in India . it is popular in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Indians living in Europe and US introduced the game and the boards fro the same are still exported from India.



1.      3.Kabaddi : The word Kabaddi is derived from Tamil word ‘Kai-Pidi” which means to hold hands. This game is most popularly played in villages . India has taken part in four Asian games in Kabaddi and won gold in all of them.





1.   4.Ludo: ‘Pachisi’ as called in the acient india was one of the most favourite game of Akbar the Great. In England the game was modified using a six side dice and panted as Ludo in 1896.





1.      5.Snakes and ladders:  In ancient India it was known by different names regionally  but the most common was ‘Moksha Patam’. The game is on traditional Hindu philosophy of KARMA.
